CBD And Travel
Written by Morgan on January 20th 2021
CBD oil, having a close relationship with Marijuana, is a mystery to many of its potential users. Regardless, it’s popularity has risen substantially in the last five years alone. With popularity comes more questions. How much should I take? What products are better than others? Furthermore, what should I know regarding travel with my products.

Let’s fist review and define what CBD oil is. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound found in the flower of cannabis. CBD is closely related to tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), often found in marijuana. Unlike THC, CBD does not have psychoactive affect such as feeling “high.” However, both have been found to have therapeutic benefits both on a physical and mental level. Those hoping to gain these attributes without the intoxicating feeling of THC have been using CBD.

THC and Traveling
On the federal level, any cannabis product with 0.3% or more of THC is considered marijuana and has all of the legal regulations that go with it. The legality behind THC and marijuana products has both a state and a federal component regarding its legality. Federally, marijuana is still illegal. However, over the last ten years or so they federal government has been differing to state decisions regarding the legalization of marijuana in that particular state. Many states are allowing marijuana for medicinal uses, others recreational.

This can make traveling with marijuana quite complicated. The consumer must be very careful with regard to traveling across state lines with Marijuana and THC. Perhaps you have a medical card in Ohio but you want to travel to Florida; where they also have medical cards. While you would think that there would be no problem with this, Ohio and Florida do not have reciprocity. Your Ohio card will not allow you to buy products. A Florida resident cannot buy products in a dispensary in Ohio.

CBD and Traveling
While CBD may appear to be loosely regulated, especially compared to marijuana, there are laws that are just as important to be aware of to avoid legal issues when traveling. The federal 2018 Farm Bill allows for CBD to be legal federally. Just a reminder, CBD is any cannabis product having less that 0.3% of THC.

While the may seem easy, you must also check the states between which you are traveling. The state you live in may allow CBD. However the state you are traveling to may not. Having a products lab report is also helpful to help alleviate any questions that may arise during travel.

I don’t recommend traveling with CBD in the form of hemp flower. This is because it looks to much like marijuana. A curious TSA agent will not be able to determine if it’s CBD or marijuana without a thorough test that will likely lead to you missing your flight. While there is no guarantee, most scent dogs do not respond to CBD oil.

Traveling with CBD Outside of the U.S.
There should be no surprise that things get more complicated when traveling internationally. Many countries have much stricter drugs laws. It’s my opinion, being a lifelong traveler, to lean towards caution. Cruise lines, in addition, must adhere to the countries the travel to and from. As well, the cruise line may have their own rules as far as what to bring on your shop.

Conclusion
Despite the laws to be aware of, many experts believe that CBD oil can be helpful in alleviating the stress of travel. While many medications have undesired side effects, most people feel that CDB’s negative affects are minimal. Specifically, the burden of muscle stiffness, uncomfortable chairs and jet lag are all things that people claim are helped by CBD. Overtime, I hope that most of the complexities or traveling with CBD will be less complicated.
